Linocut

i bought some lino and a set of linocutting tools a while back and hadnt the chance to try it.. until last night! it was so much fun! i really love how i can just leave the world behind and simply focus on creating something u can call your own. And its a lil different from digital works cos this is something you can actually hold and feel. Carving lino is realllly therapeutic and i would recommend everyone who has a 3sec attention span like me to go try it out. Just try not to slice through your fingers.

sometime back the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) approached me and asked if i would like to help them design a few illustrations of the Merlion to be put up on hoardings as they carry out reconstruction works on the Merlion. It was so much fun and indeed a pleasure to help bring alive the icon of Singapore =)

The illustrations should be up by July so if you're free do hop on down to the Merlion Park to check it out! =))

you can read more about it at the STB website or click HERE

The Wau - Anchor of the Malaysian Culture

An illustration of the Malay tradition kite, called the Wau. Here i'm trying to show how the beautiful craft of the wau is slowly fading away through time as there are less and less people who are willing to take up the art of kite making.

as i was illustrating this piece and trying to capture the meticulous detailing of the kite, i came to understand the beauty of it and how each is meticulously crafted by hand by men who are passionate abt this craft. I am doing it digitally and already fine it difficult, imagine doing it by hand with a pencil and a crafting knife with no ctrl+z!? Respect indeed.

Greetings from Pulau Koko Island!

D&AD Student awards entry - Little White Lies

"Men taught us there are 2 ways to life. The way of nature, and the way of grace. You have to choose which one you'll follow.

Grace isnt trying to please itself. Accepts being slided, forgotten, disliked;
accepts insults and injuries.

Nature only wants to please itself. But others to please it too. Likes to lorded over them; to have its own way. It finds reasons to be unhappy, and all the world is shining around it.

And love is shining through all things.

It taught us that no one who loves the way of grace, ever comes to a bad end.

I will be true to You. Whatever comes."

- from the movie "The Tree of Life"
